Greed
"Be proud of your country," the government says. "Know your nation's history," say they. "Well how can we," we say, "when half of our history you keep a mystery? Like what happened at Roswell? And how could you live with knowing about the Guantanamo Bay hell?" We continue, "No go on and try, it's about time this country knows why." They retort, "We've always tried to be true, and when we weren't it was to protect you so why do you argue?" "We argue where it's due. But tell us true, who was protected by the sin of Mister $20 Andrew Jackson? I do believe the Trail of Tears caused more fears than cheers." "It was an honest mistake. Of course it's understood why we had to forsake those violent reds. At least their entire race isn't dead," they said. We reply, "We live in a country built upon a bloody history. The world around us is falling to shit and don't you dare try to deny it. We are not proud of this country if we cannot be proud of our history and that is no mystery. And what is our proposed theory? To presently make a better history. And we will be proud of whatever nation who does not hand out fiction where the truth is deserved. We the people are not your herd. And if your degrading ways continue then we will only have time to write haikus for we'll be so busy planning a coup against the government that is you. And when that day surely comes you can stop worrying about your revenue because greed will die when you do."
